Direct credit into your bank account is the fastest and most secure method to receive your tax refund. A cheque will take 3 to 5 days longer and will be sent to the address you provide on your application. A cheque may also take up to 10 days to clear in your bank account.

When entering your Bank Account details please choose an account that is under your legal name. MyTax.co.nz Ltd will not pay tax refunds into any bank account not under your name.

Self-employment refers to a person who works for themselves (owns a business) instead of working as an employee of another person or entity. They operate as a sole trader or as part of a partnership. This is a situation in which an individual sets up their own business in order to derive an income as opposed to being an employee and receiving a salary.

This refers to a salary from a company in which you own a shareholding.

If you earned OVER $200 of interest in any ONE year this needs to be declared. Interest is generally earned from money in bank accounts.

If you earned OVER $200 of dividends in any ONE financial year then this needs to be declared. Dividends are payments made by corporations to people that hold shares in that company.

If you earned OVER $200 of Maori Authority distributions in any ONE financial year then this needs to be declared.

If there is a taxable distribution from an estate or trust, this should be included as income. Estate income is generally received through someone's will.

If you are a landlord and own a rental property please select yes to the rental income question.

Working for Families income is payments that you receive from either Inland Revenue or Work and Income to assist with raising children in your care. Please tick yes if either you or your partner receives this tax credit as it can affect your refund assessment.

If you are under 25 you may be entitled to a child rebate credit. Please enter your date of birth and the date you left high school/college (not Polytech or University).

Please let us know the date you arrived in New Zealand if this is within the last 6 years.

Please provide dates if you have left New Zealand to travel abroad for more than 6 months at a time. We would also need to know the date you returned if applicable. You will be able to find these dates by looking at your passport.

If you have left New Zealand to live overseas and will be gone for more than 6 months please provide your departure date as we may need to file an IR3 for you.

If you have made donations totalling over $235 in any one year we can file a rebate return for you. We will contact you for further details. Inland Revenue provides more information on what qualifies as a donation.

If you have been made redundant between April 2009 and October 2011 and received a redundancy pay-out totalling over $1500 and have not previously filed a rebate return for this you may be entitled to this rebate. We will contact you for further details.

If you have been declared bankrupt in the last 5 years this may affect your refund assessment so please tick this box and ensure you have provided your new Inland Revenue number and not your previous Inland Revenue number.

If you have received withholding payments and paid withholding tax and have work related expenses to claim please tick this box. We will contact you for further details.
