MyTax.co.nz is an IRD registered tax agent. This means that if you’ve earned wages or a salary in New Zealand at any time in the last 5 years, we are able to check with the IRD if you are owed a tax refund. Many thousands of New Zealanders overpay tax every year – it’s our job to get it back for you!
You fill out our application form with some basic information, which should take less than 5 minutes.
You will need to have your IRD number and Driver’s Licence handy and some details regarding your income and work.
We receive your application for a tax refund, link you to our tax agency and calculate whether you have any tax refunds owed to you over the past 5 years.
We aim to let you know your tax refund result within 1 business day and have it paid to you in around 5 days.
We prepare and file your Personal Tax Summary (“PTS”) and/or tax returns with the Inland Revenue Department for the years you are owed a refund. If we find you have tax to pay in any year we won’t send your PTS or tax return to the IRD unless you ask us to.
And remember, if you’re not owed a refund, we don’t charge you a fee!
The IRD pay your refund into our trust account. We check your refund, complete the required paperwork and send you your refund by cheque or direct credit, less our fee. You can also collect Fly Buys points on your fee.
The whole process is fast, simple, and designed to be stress free for you. Once you have completed your application you can check how it’s progressing by signing in to My Account using your IRD number and Date of Birth.

Now! The sooner the better. We can only check the last 5 years. If you wait until after 31 March you will lose the earliest year’s refund.
How much does it cost?
We have a “no refund – no fee” policy, so if you don’t get a refund we won’t charge you a cent. We charge a percentage of your tax refund, and you can earn Fly Buys points on all of our fees.
Could I have to pay tax?
No. With MyTax.co.nz you won’t be assessed for tax to pay as we only file for a tax assessment if a tax refund is due.
Is my information safe?
Absolutely. As practicing tax agents we are strictly confidential and are bound by the Privacy Act 1993 to protect your information.
